Thandiwe Nqanda is a South African-born poet. In her 13 years of writing, she has partaken in both local and international projects, such as 16DaysOfActivisim16Poets,
performing her poem 'Energy' on totallyradio in Brighton, UK 2021
and being the
Former Guest Poet for State of The Nation Address, SONA 2022 (People’s Voice).
Her audience reach is inclusive of various African countries such as Zimbabwe and Namibia, and extends as far as
the UK, USA and Germany.
This afforded her the gift of writing and composing IT IS TIME, a musical poetry show.
Above all, she is a child of God and her parents, a sister, an aunt, friend, partner to a lover and a dreamer.
It would seem that being an internationally acclaimed poet would be the epitome of Thandiwe's successes and accomplishments but she pushes boundaries beyond just words...
Apart from her love for writing (and being exceptionally good at it), Thandiwe has thrived on the basketball court for longer than Justin Bieber's career has existed. Her experience of being a multi-time national, provincial and All Star sports champion has extended beyond the court to coaching and providing academic support for current and new basketball recruits in high schools and at her alma mater, Witwatersrand University - where she also captained the Wits Basketball 1st Ladies Team. To add, she is the co-founder of the Triple Threat Discussions Show that hosts dialogues with other basketball players on Instagram.
So whether she is writing her next book or balling on the basketball court, there is no doubt that Thandiwe's well-rounded character and outstanding capabilities are only the surface of who she is as a person. Apart from her amazing talents, the richness of her friendships and relationships lies at the root of her being, as well as her book - no time to mourn. It is this quality that has carried her through each aspect of her life and that will continue to be a reminder to each of us that Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.
